PayPal co-founder, venture capitalist and Facebook board member Peter Thiel got hitched last weekend in Vienna, Austria.
Thiel married longtime boyfriend Matt Danzeisen, who now works as a portfolio manager at Thiel Capital, according to Axios.
The wedding apparently came as a complete surprise to Thiel’s guests. According to Axios, guests visited the Austrian capital expecting to celebrate Thiel’s 50th birthday.
Little is known about Danzeisen beyond his position. In May, he spoke at a conference in Japan about the state of financial technology after a slump in 2016.
“What might explain some of the slowdown is that winners are emerging as certain business models are becoming more clearly dominant,” said Danzeisen. “So, it is cyclical, but we’ll still see innovation.”
Thiel was one of the few Silicon Valley figures to support Donald Trump before the 2016 election, while Danzeisen was “much more moderate” in his support for Trump, according to a BuzzFeed report.
Since Trump’s inauguration in January, Thiel has kept a relatively low profile. In the past month, Thiel reportedly invested with fellow early Facebook investor Sean Parker in a stealth startup called 3T Biosciences, which intends to build technology to fight cancer cells.
